The VFD550i is a dedicated servo drive specifically engineered for injection moulding machine applications. It features a built-in hydraulic control macro that provides integrated pressure and flow closed-loop control, eliminating the need for external PID controllers.

The drive is available in a wide power range from 5.6A to 152A at 380V, covering everything from small to large injection moulding machines. It supports multiple control modes including V/F control, sensorless vector control, and closed-loop vector control, giving users flexibility to choose the best performance level for their needs.

Encoder compatibility is another strong point. The drive works with resolver, ABZ incremental encoders, and ABZUVW incremental encoders, making it adaptable to both asynchronous and permanent magnet synchronous motors.

In terms of I/O, the drive offers three analog inputs – AI1 for pressure command, AI2 for flow command, and AI3 for pressure sensor feedback – plus analog outputs for seamless system integration. All models come with a built-in braking unit, and a clear braking resistor selection table is provided for easy matching.

The LED keypad is user-friendly, with a 5-digit display, indicator lights for Hz, A, V, RPM, and percentage, and a jog function for convenient operation. The drive also supports motor temperature sensor input with overheat warning and fault protection, as well as multi-pump slave connection for complex hydraulic systems. Command sources can be selected from keyboard, terminal, or communication protocols such as CAN or CANopen.

The VFD550i delivers high-precision speed and torque control through its closed-loop vector control capability, which is critical for maintaining stable pressure and flow regulation during injection moulding cycles. The dedicated pressure sensor feedback loop, combined with adjustable PID parameters, ensures stable pressure holding with minimal fluctuation – a key requirement for high-quality moulding.

An intelligent sleep and wake function improves energy efficiency during idle cycles. The drive can enter sleep mode based on frequency or analog input, with adjustable thresholds and delay times. Overload capacity is robust, with built-in electronic thermal overload protection for both the drive and the motor.

For troubleshooting, the drive logs the last three faults with detailed status records, making diagnosis quick and efficient. The carrier frequency can be automatically adjusted based on speed and temperature, balancing noise levels and heat dissipation for optimal operation.
